I have been a public school teacher. My children are in public schools. And, yes, I absolutely support the right of families to make educational choices for their children. I absolutely support the right of parents to be the teacher for their children, almost regardless of their own education. I give the "almost" because God has not blessed us all the same and there some, but not a great amount, of people who do not have the intellectual capability. Notice that I did not mention academic credentials.

I regularly give presentations to homeschoolers (about online high schools, about distance learning, and earning cheap college degrees) and my experience has taught me two things.

First, that homeschoolers have been misled. There are some in the homeschooling crowd that believe that public school teachers are the "enemy."

Having met many, many homeschoolers, some are surprised, given my background, that I support homeschooling. Why wouldn't I? While some homeschoolers view public schools as the competition, for most teachers that I know, this is not true.

Also and importantly, if you are homeschooling your child, that means one less student that they must teach. Given the insane pressure that teachers are under these days, that is not always a bad thing.
